KHODA. Transformizm
02.2024, PGS Sopot
The project was inspired by the video footage (by Serhiej Stecenko) of the damaged interiors of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration building, which was bombed by Russian rockets on March 1, 2022.
Russia's brutal crimes committed on innocent people demand a response. I hadn't thought about creating artwork directly addressing this topic until I received video footage of the destroyed building of the Kharkiv regional administration. The images of the ruined interiors struck me with tremendous force. The silence captured in them after a powerful explosion on the monumental Freedom Square, as a result of which a massive shockwave destroyed all the building's floors, continues to resonate in my head, leaving me restless. The juxtaposition of untouched, opulent Soviet decorations with the chaos of destruction creates a message rich in meaning and contrasts. But there's also something challenging to come to terms with – it's a beautiful image, fascinating (and I know I'm contradicting myself). It's an image of transformation. A change touching deep history – paradoxically, Russian missiles de-Sovietized the interiors of the Ukrainian administration building, tearing decorative five-pointed stars from the walls.
