Technopera
Multimedia mass performance, 1995-2023, libretto by Dr Kudltazt and Peter Style, developed by CUKT
Technopera 3.0 Libretto, 1996
What will happen when everyone knew everything?
This is the question that Robert Scoble, a famous tech blogger and author, tweeted in 2023, referring to the revolutionary development of artificial intelligence technology. This is also the question that Technopera explores through techno culture and opera. Technopera is a multimedia event that combines techno culture and opera, performed in the post-industrial space of the former Gdańsk Shipyard. The project is a direct development of the events organized by the iconic Tri-City artistic group C.U.K.T. (Central Office of Technical Culture) in the years 1996 - 1999. Members of C.U.K.T. believed in the rhythm, trance nature of techno music and the possibility of subliminal influence on the recipient. These assumptions, closely related to the effects of techno music, were combined with the belief in the possibility of shaping social and civic attitudes and educating society. Technopera 2023 is based on the new version of the libretto by Podletz (Artur Kozdrowski) and Peter Style (Piotr Wyrzykowski). It consists of audiovisual samples from popular science and science fiction films arranged in the form of dialogue between opera characters.
The libretto played live by a VJ is a choreographic and dramatic reference point for actors and musicians. Artists who co-founded the C.U.K.T. group are involved in the production of Technopera 2023. The director and author of the visual layer is Piotr Wyrzykowski, and Mikołaj Robert Jurkowski plays the role of Man. The other artists participating in the project are leading Tricity artists, well known to the national and international audience. The creator of electronic music, Michał Jacaszek, prepares the electronic layer of the opera, and NeoQuartet, together with its electric instruments, is his partner in creating the entire audio sphere of the event. The cast of Technopera 2023 is complemented by the world-famous soprano and performer Aleksandra Klimczak. The remaining characters of the opera Alien, Machine and Cyborg are generated using artificial intelligence by Piotr Wyrzykowski. Costumes by Agnieszka Kochańczyk with Natalia Fierka and Karolina Kaźmierczak.

Projekt Technopera 2023 to multimedialne wydarzenie łączące kulturę techno i operę zrealizowane w przestrzeni post przemysłowej dawnej Stoczni Gdańskiej, którego premiera miała miejsce 17 czerwca 2023 roku.
Technopera 2023 to bezpośrednie nawiązanie do wydarzeń realizowanych przez kultową trójmiejską grupę artystyczną C.U.K.T. (Centralny Urząd Kultury Technicznej) w latach 1996 – 1999.Członkowie C. U. K. T. wierzyli w rytm, transowość muzyki techno i możliwość podprogowego oddziaływania na odbiorcę. Te założenia, ściśle związane z działaniem muzyki techno, łączyły się z wiarą w możliwość kształtowania postaw społecznych i obywatelskich, edukowania społeczeństwa.
Obsadę Technopery 2023 dopełnia światowej sławy sopranistka i performerka Aleksandra Klimczak. Pozostali bohaterowie opery Obcy, Maszyna i Cyborg zostaną wygenerowani przy pomocy sztucznej inteligencji. (animacja, głosy: Piotr Wyrzykowski) Kostiumy: Agnieszka Kochańczyk współpraca Natalia Fierka i Karolina Kaźmierczak.

Description by Filmoteka Muzeum
Technopera was an attempt to combine techno and opera. New, technological art and its “highest form”, or perhaps its most humanist articulation. That is why artists chose the subject of the libretto they wrote to be the relation between human and cyborg. Two characters talked about the changes in the modern world resulting from the appearance of new technologies. The main characters were an opera singer and a DJ. The libretto included not only music and songs, but also audiovisual samples taken mostly from science-fiction movies. Technopera originated from CUKT parties and rave events, but in some versions it was only a show to be watched and listened to, not an event you could actively participate in. Before entering Technopera, you were usually submitted to a “Cyborg Test” performed by CUKT.
